Our Self Guided Danube Bike Trail Tour takes you from Vienna, Austria to Budapest, Hungary cycling in 3 different countries – Austria, Slovakia and Hungary.

Impressive monuments, sumptuous palaces and exquisite architecture are some of the things you can see in the heart of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire. From Vienna cycle along the Hungarian side of the Danube through Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. Continue into Hungary where you will stay in the historical towns of Györ and Esztergom. The artist’s town of Szentendre contains many galleries, museums and cafes. The mix of cultural landmarks and rustic, riverside fields and meadows makes for a relaxing cycle tour.

Day 1- Vienna

Individual arrival to Vienna. If you want to spend more time sightseeing in Vienna, we can arrange additional nights in Vienna. Overnight in Vienna.

Day 2 – Vienna – Bad Deutsch / Altenburg (51 km / 32 miles)

In the morning you will meet your contact person, who will introduce you to the program. You will also get all necessary materials. The first day on the tour takes you along the Danube river valley to the town of Bad Deutsch / Altenburg. Overnight in Bad Deutsch / Altenburg.

Day 3 – Bad Deutsch / Altenburg – Bratislava – Mosonmagyarovar (65 km / 40 miles)

Today’s ride brings you briefly through Slovakia via Bratislava with its historical old town center. Then it’s on to Hungary, where the days ride finishes in Mosonmagyarovar. This town is located in the meanders of a small river coming off and following the Danube. Overnight in Mosonmagyarovar.

Day 4 – Mosonmagyarovar – Gyor (45 km / 28 miles)

The ride between Mosonmagyarovar and Gyor winds its way through farming pastures. The cycling route is broken up by small, farming towns. The destination of today‘s route is the city of Gyor. This town, originally a Hungarian stronghold from A.D.900, has also a superb cathedral from the 12th century. Overnight in Gyor.

Day 5 – Gyor – Tata (71 km / 45 miles)

Cycling not far from the Danube’s riverflow in this rustic, farming landscape, you will finish in the town of Tata, situated on lake Tatal. Overnight in Tata.

Day 6 – Tata – Esztergom (57 km / 35 miles)

Today the route goes through forested landscape with an ascent to cover but after that it is a straight run to Esztergom. This town has an immense cathedral, the largest in Hungary, dating from 1822, which incorporates an earlier, renaissance church from the 16th century. Overnight in Esztergom.

Day 7 – Esztergom – Budapest (77 km / 49 miles – you can shorten the distance by taking a boat from Szentendre to Budapest, 57 km/ 35 miles)

Cycling along the Danube river valley gets you to the small town of Visegrad. Continue on to the town of Szentendre with its many churches, galleries and arts, and the opportunity to visit the river island of the same name. This town is really a gem of the tour. Finally you finish in Budapest. This magnificent city, once a centre of the Austro-Hungarian empire, boasts incredible architecture and its thriving center offers many things to do. Overnight in Budapest.

Day 8 – Budapest

Tour ends after breakfast. If you want more time for sightseeing around Budapest, we can arrange additional nights in Budapest.
