Our guide will pick you up and transfer you to your first accommodation, where you’ll be introduced to the journey ahead. During a brief briefing, our guide will provide an overview of the exciting days to come, detailing the tour itinerary and key highlights. Besides that, the day it’s yours to explore Vila Nova de Milfontes! Situated at the Costa Vicentina National Park, Vila Nova de Milfontes is one of the loveliest towns along this stretch of the coast. With its whitewashed center, sparkling beaches nearby, and a laid-back population, it is a unique place to visit and stay. Take time to wander through its quaint streets, visit the stunning nearby beaches, or indulge in the region’s mouthwatering cuisine, renowned for its fresh seafood and local specialties. Let the peaceful ambiance and coastal views inspire you as you prepare for the unforgettable adventure that lies ahead. Your adventure begins here – enjoy every moment!
Day 2 – Hike from Porto Covo to Vila Nova de Milfontes Distance: 20 km | 15 km, Elevation Gain: +200 m | +100
Porto Covo, a lovely seaside town!
Today’s hike begins in the picturesque seaside town of Porto Covo, where you’ll be transferred by car before starting your scenic walk towards Vila Nova de Milfontes. This section of the trail is one of the most incredible beach stretches, offering a chance to explore pristine beaches such as Pessegueiro, Aivados, and Malhão. As you walk, you’ll be immersed in dramatic ocean views and breathtaking, isolated beaches that will leave you in awe. Take time to appreciate the rugged cliffs, sculpted by centuries of erosion, and the small, secluded beaches (locally known as “palheirões”) that emerge between the cliffs, adding to the untouched beauty of the landscape. This trail also offers a rare glimpse into the rich biodiversity of the area, with unique plant life that thrives in this harsh yet beautiful environment. Despite the poor soil and salty winds, nature here has adapted in the most remarkable ways, with many plant species that are endemic to the Vicentina coast, found nowhere else in the world. The vibrant colors, intricate shapes, and aromatic scents of the flora will captivate you along the way. As the day draws to an end, be sure to take the opportunity to explore Milfontes a little further: explore its charming streets, relax on its beautiful beaches, and savor the local seafood and traditional Portuguese dishes. Once across, say goodbye to Milfontes and start your hike towards Almograve, where the rugged cliffs unfold before you, revealing spectacular beaches and breathtaking views. Among these is Brejo Largo, a hidden gem with an expansive stretch of golden sand nestled between dramatic cliffs. As you walk the Fisherman’s Trail, immerse yourself in the natural beauty that surrounds you—the fresh ocean breeze, the soothing touch of the wind, and the vibrant colors of wildflowers growing between Mediterranean plants and herbs. Day 4 – Hike Almograve to Touril Distance: 21 km | 10 km Elevation Gain: +300 m | 100 m
Lighthouse of Cape Sardão, a place of immense beauty!
Begin your day walking along Almograve Beach, one of the most stunning stretches of the Alentejo coastline. Perhaps the perfect opportunity to take off your shoes and feel the refreshing saltwater on your feet before continuing your journey. From here, the trail leads you to the iconic Lighthouse of Cape Sardão, a historic landmark with a fascinating twist – it was accidentally built backward, with its entrance facing the ocean instead of the land! Since 1915, this inverted lighthouse has been guiding sailors, and its unique story is a point of pride for locals. Surrounded by towering cliffs of dark grey schist, this area is a haven of biodiversity. Marvel at the abundance of Rockroses, including the rare and protected Cistus palhinhae, known for its sticky, aromatic leaves and large white flowers. Cabo Sardão is also home to the world’s only white stork colony that nests on cliffs, offering a rare chance to observe these majestic birds in such a unique setting. As you continue along the coastline, the trail reveals breathtaking landscapes with every step. By the end of the day, you’ll arrive at your accommodation, where you can unwind and relax. Here, we invite you to savor Alentejo’s renowned gastronomy, indulging in fresh seafood and traditional delicacies crafted with locally sourced ingredients.

Day 5 – Hike from Touril to Brejão Distance: 14 km Elevation Gain: +200 m

As you continue south on the Fisherman’s trail, prepare to be enchanted by the secrets it reveals! This is a day to fully immerse yourself in the splendor of the trail. Despite encountering sandy stretches, every step rewards you with stunning views and unforgettable experiences. Admire the boundless Atlantic stretching to the horizon. Be captivated by stork nests perched dramatically on coastal rocks and watch seagulls joyfully gliding above. Witness how the rugged rock formations appear to transform before your eyes and discover hidden coves and deserted beaches that feel like your own private paradise. Your journey begins by passing by Porto das Barcas, a charming traditional fishing port nestled between the cliffs. Depending on the time of your visit, you may catch a glimpse of local fishing boats departing or returning, offering a rare and authentic insight into the rhythms of coastal life. Later, you’ll arrive at Zambujeira do Mar, a quaint village of whitewashed houses perched by the sea. Tucked into a picturesque cove in the heart of the Alentejo region, Zambujeira is surrounded by weathered cliffs and golden shores. This enchanting town invites you to linger, explore its narrow streets, and absorb its coastal charm. Your day ends as you continue to Brejão, where you’ll unwind and spend the night. Today’s hike leads you to the idyllic village of Odeceixe, a place of unparalleled charm where natural beauty takes center stage. Situated on the southern bank of Ribeira de Seixe, which marks the natural border between the Algarve and Alentejo regions, Odeceixe is a magnificent and unforgettable highlight of the Fisherman’s Trail. The trail unfolds along the stunning coastline, offering breathtaking views and unique experiences. Let the soothing sound of the ocean and the crisp sea air awaken your senses. Marvel at the ancient rock formations, etched with the markings of time, and enjoy the company of the coastal birds, whose songs remind you of the simplicity and beauty of life. This path invites you to reflect, dream, and fully embrace the silence and serenity of nature. On your way, you’ll encounter iconic spots like Azenha do Mar, a picturesque fishing village where you can take a well-deserved break and sample local delicacies. As your day draws to an end, you’ll approach Odeceixe from its north viewpoint, offering one of the most spectacular panoramas of the region.
