Day 1: Meeting day in Salzburg, Austria.
We will meet in the late afternoon at the hotel for a tour orientation, bike fitting and welcome dinner.
Day 2: Cycling from Salzburg to St Johann (64 km)
Our first day’s ride takes us from Salzburg through the Salzach Valley to St Johann, a summer sports destination in the Austrian Alps.
HIGHLIGHTS: The 900-year-old Hohenwerfen Castle, one of the oldest and best-preserved castles in Europe.
Day 3: Cycling from St Johann to Bad Gastein (45 km)
We follow a bike path through the Gastein Valley and end the day with a short train ride. HIGHLIGHTS: The scenic ski town of St. Johann im Pongau, the Gastein Valley and the famous mountain resort of Badgastein with a waterfall in the center of town.
Day 4: Cycling from Bad Gastein to Spittal (50 km)
Today we enter Carinthia, one of Austria’s most impressive vacation regions, and enjoy a downhill ride through the Molltal Valley beneath impressive 3,000 meter mountains.
HIGHLIGHTS: Train from Bad Gastein and the downhill ride into the Molltal valley.
Day 5: Spittal and Drau to Faaker See (60 km)
Our ride today is slightly downhill along the Drau River. We cycle to the beautiful town of Villach and then to Faaker See on the shore of a clear turquoise alpine lake.
HIGHLIGHTS: Drau Valley, town of Villach and the lake at Faaker See. Our hotel is a favorite, as it is situated on an island with spectacular views in all directions.
Day 6: Rest day or loop ride from Faaker See
Today you can choose to spend the day on the island where there is a spa, swimming options and paddling in a canoe. We will also offer a great loop ride from Faaker See.
HIGHLIGHTS: 2 nights in the most beautiful accommodations of the trip!
Day 7: Cycling from Faaker See to Kranjska Gora (65 km)
Today we ride in three countries and cross from Austria to Italy and then into Slovenia to enjoy the stunning Sava Valley and overnight in Kranjska Gora.
HIGHLIGHTS: When else can you have breakfast in Austria, lunch in Italy and dinner in Slovenia. You’ll ride along the most spectacular scenery of the tour. Kranjska Gora, our home for the night is home to the World Cup Alpine skiing and ski jumping.
Day 8: Cycling from Kranjska Gora to Bled (45 km)
Our route begins on a cycling path down valley and then we make a short climb into a beautiful forested valley. Our final stage ends with a downhill into Bled. This picturesque town is on the shore of a gorgeous lake that is surrounded by mountain peaks.
HIGHLIGHTS: Historic farm museum in Krma valley, lunch at Psnak restaurant, and Lake Bled with its medieval castle perched on a steep cliff overlooking the lake.
Day 9: Bled. The tour ends after breakfast. Please let us know if you want us to make reservations for any additional nights in Bled or Ljubljana.
AIR TRAVEL INFORMATION: THIS TRIP BEGINS SALZBURG, AUSTRIA AND ENDS IN BLED, SLOVENIA. One option is to schedule your flights into Salzburg airport (SZG) at the start and return home from LJUBLJANA (LJU) at the end of the tour. You might find cheaper flight options into MUNICH (MUC) and out of LJUBLJANA (LJU), with a 2 hour train ride from Munich to Salzburg. You could also look at roundtrip flights from LJUBLJANA (LJU), with a 4 hour train ride to Salzburg at the beginning of the trip. Bled and Ljubljana are equal distance from the Ljubljana airport.
