Our Umbria Walking Tour takes you through the Green Heart of Italy. We offer this tour as a Self Guided Walking Tour, and it may also be chartered as a guided tour for groups.

This self-guided tour is a fully organized vacation for the independent traveler who wants the freedom to walk at his or her own pace. You’ll have complete support behind the scenes. Our Italy representative will meet you at the beginning of your tour for an orientation. You will receive a packet with detailed route instructions, maps, suggestions for sights to visit along the route and emergency support phone numbers. You can take a spontaneous detour and always feel secure that your hotel room will be waiting for you. You will be able to travel at your own pace without a guide or support vehicle to hurry you along or to slow you down. Your luggage will be transported each day to the next accommodation, which will be reserved and prepaid. You don’t need to worry, as emergency support is just a phone call away.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Perugia

Arrival at the Perugia train station : metro ride ( Minimetro) directly to the centre of the town . A lively city, nice boutiques, good restaurants, an art gallery with a superb collection of Medieval paintings and a very special subterranean town.

Day 2 – Valfabbrica to Assisi – 5 hrs walking time, 16 kms, (10 miles )/ Difficulty Level: Moderate

San Francis used to travel on foot from Assisi to Gubbio, we will retrace his steps along these rugged hills.Transfer from Perugia to trail start. The beginning is a bit tough then it becomes easier. Rolling hills and thick woods and an amazing arrival with a breath taking view of Assisi. Spend the next 2 nights in an Assisi hotel.

Day 3 – Assisi Loop – 3 hours walking time, 14 kms (8.7 miles) / Difficulty Level: Moderate

A relaxing day. If you want to walk you can have a 3 hours loop Have a brisk departure by climbing to the Eremo delle Carceri, S. Francis peaceful retreat. At the top of the trail 500 meters from the Eremo there is a nice picnic spot with tables and benches. Otherwise just visit Assisi, which has a lot more to offer than the St Francis Basilica, although the Giotto’s frescos are superb. Hotel in Assisi

Day 4 – Assisi to Spello – 6 hrs walking time, 17.7 kms 11 miles) / Difficulty Level: Moderate

Start from your hotel and walk a trail which cuts through the Subasio park and unfolds among olive groves to reach Spello a lovely village with cobbled streets and peaceful squares. Much less touristy and quieter after Assisi. Spend the next 2 nights in a nice Spello hotel with a view of the whole valley.

Day 5 – Spello Loop – 4 hrs walking time, 17.7 kms (11 miles)/ Difficulty Level: Moderate

A circular walking loop from Spello to Spello visiting the Subasio mountainand the amazing hamlet of Collepino. Night at the Hotel in Spello.

Day 6 – Collemancio to Bevagna – 5 hrs walking time, 16.8 km (10.5 miles) / Difficulty Level: Easy

A short transfer from Spello to Collemancio ( 20 minutes by car) where starts a spectacular walk to Bevagna visiting a genuine and rustic cellar of Dionigi family ( Sagrantino di Montefalco producer). Hotel in Bevagna.

Day 7 – Bevagna to Montefalco – 3.5 hours walking time, 14 kms, (8.7 miles )/ Difficulty Level: Moderate

A loop in the heart of the best wine area of Umbria. After visiting Bevagna which is known for its medieval market during the month of June; walk from Bevagna to Montefalco, have lunch at the enoteca on Montefalco main square, sample some wine at one of the best wineries of the area and return to your hotel in Bevagna.

Day 8 – Departure

After breakfast, transfer to the train station.
