Guided Bike Tour of Costa Brava Spain

This is perfect trip for the casual cyclist who wants to visit one of Europe’s most beautiful locations, the Costa Brava in the Catalonia region of northeastern Spain. Our cycling route is on a variety of both flat terrain and some gently rolling hills, and it is the perfect way to discover Catalonia’s fascinating history, culture and excellent cuisine. With its gorgeous beaches, rugged coastline, charming stone villages and pine covered hills, the Costa Brava is an unforgettable cycling destination.

You will be staying in a variety of accommodations that reflect the hospitality of the region and feature a splendid assortment of European style hotels, charming country inns and a restored 17th century farmhouse situated in a lovely pastoral setting. The scrumptious meals served on the tour are made with the freshest local ingredients and seasoned with tasty local olive oil and herbs. We will also be sampling some of Spain’s best cheeses and most famous wines from the renowned regional vineyards.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Girona

Arrival on your own by train and taxi to your hotel in the center of town. You can enjoy visiting the old part of this historical city where the cathedral remains and the Jewish quarter are outstanding. Your hotel is a great central location. We will meet in the late afternoon for a tour orientation, bike fitting and a welcome dinner

Day 2 – Girona – Figueres – 44 kms

The day begins with a transfer out of Girona, toward the lake of Banyoles and Neolitic Park la Draga. We ride to the town of Figueres through lovely countryside. The Salvador Dali museum is a highlight to visit in Figueres.

Day 3 – Figueres – Cadaqués – 48 kms

Our route leads us to the the Cap de Creus and through vineyards, fruit trees and the hill of Sant Pere de Rodes with its magnificent Romanic monastery to our arrival in Cadaqués, home town of the famous painter Salvador Dalí.

Day 4 – Cadaqués – hiking day

No need to pack up today as we will spend another day in this special location.  There is a great walking tour in the Cap de Creus which will showcase some of the most splendid scenery in the region.  Our hotel is located near the sea, so you can enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean.  For those who prefer to do some biking, there is a possibility for a short ride today.

Day 5 – Cadaqués –  Sant Marti d’Empuries 40 kms- 

Today’s route passes through the stunning olive groves and vineyards. We will visit Castelló d’Empuries, with his cathedral and old Jewish quarter. We will pass the Wetlands Natural Park of Empordà with hides for birdwatching.

Day 6 – Sant Marti d’Empuries – Calella De Palafurgell   40 kms

Our route today takes you from the Alt Empordà region to the Baix Empordà region, riding through the inland part of this area.  Then, we’ll return to the coast to the old fishing village of Calella de Palafrugell, which still retains its original charm.  Our hotel is in a wonderful location above the sea.

Day 7 –Calella de Palafurgell to Madremanya – 43 kms

Today, the itinerary goes from the coast to the interior. It goes through a large number of medieval settlements: Cruilles, Peratallada, Ullastre.  We’ll enjoy lunch and a wine tasting in wonderful small vineyard along the way. Lodging is in our very favorite hamlet of Madremanya.

Day 8 – Madremanya loop – 43 kms

You could easily spend the day relaxing in this country inn, or you could choose to do a loop ride to visit some of the medieval villages in the region including the magnificent medieval historic monument of Pals.

Day 9

Your tour ends after breakfast. Taxi on your own to the train station in Flaçà for trains to Barcelona or Girona. We can also arrange van transfers for an additional cost.
